What's the difference between Tennessee whiskey and Kentucky bourbon?
Both Tennessee whiskey and Kentucky bourbon must be produced in the United States from a grain mash of at least 51 percent corn, aged in new charred oak barrels, and distilled to no more than 160 proof. The legal difference is geography and one extra step: by Tennessee law, Tennessee whiskey must be produced in Tennessee and filtered through sugar-maple charcoal before aging (the Lincoln County Process). Many Tennessee whiskeys, including Peg Leg Porker, also qualify legally as straight bourbon, so they can be labeled Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
What is the best Peg Leg Porker bourbon to buy?
It depends on the occasion. For everyday sipping and cocktails, the flagship 90-proof Tennessee Straight Bourbon is the workhorse. For a serious shelf-topper, the Aged 12 Years was named Double Platinum at the 2025 ASCOT Awards and Best Small Batch Bourbon (10+ years) at the 2024 New York World Spirits Competition. For barrel-strength bourbon drinkers, the Full Proof at 119 proof is filtered through hickory charcoal. For collectors, the Pitmaster Reserve 15 Year Double Oaked Rye is limited to 3,000 numbered bottles. See the full lineup →

What does "Bottled in Bond" mean?

To qualify, an American whiskey must be the product of one distillation season, by one distiller, at one distillery; aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse; and bottled at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV). The label must identify both the distillery where it was distilled and where it was bottled. It remains one of the strictest authenticity standards in American spirits, which is why Peg Leg Porker chose it for the Spirit of America release.
